As the nights comes down and the other side of the night has risen, the souvenirs seller replace by the food vendor and one of it is a gudeg seller that I found nearby the 24 hours shop at Malioboro. The lady was helped by her daughter, selling gudeg one of the traditional food from Yogyakarta.
Once arrived at Malioboro, you’ll find this food stall lining along the sidewalk, centered in front of Beringhardjo market. This seems like a heaven for a vegetarian since they sold pecel ~ a porsion of boiled veggie poured with grinding peanuts, chili, coconut sugar and salt. You can eat pecel along with the seasoned fried tofu, tempe and bakwan (fried vegies mixed with flour & egg) with 10,000 -15,000 rupiah which equal to 1-2 USD you can feed your dragon already 🙂
One of the castle from Dutch colonial that located in the corner of malioboro street along with the other Yogyakarta landmark.
Batik is one of Indonesia heritage that has been admitted by international world and this is how is the batik made. The pattern are transfers into the textile material and then using ‘malam’ and canting ‘the batik pen’ the lady is following the pattern patiently.
Still located in Yogyakarta, if you are planning to hunting souvenirs for your love ones and relatives, and you are not confident with your bargaining ability you could try to go to Mirota Batik which provided various kind of souvenirs that tempting you from Batik material, wooden mask, statue, clothes, pillows, traditional drinks and so on….
Once you step in through the front door, this old man will greet you with the traditional costumes, playing a traditional instrumental and singin in Javanesse language 🙂
If you ever visit Yogyakarta, go to Beringhardjo market and walk a little to find this old lady, selling one of the tasty snack, satay of fats with sweet seasoning. Once you order, the satay will be re-burn using a charcoal because it tasted better when its hot. She’ll wrap the satay using banana leaf and with 1500 rupiahs per stick I could pleased my tongue for five minutes…..
